When people buy a product or a service from a social enterprise, they get the same high quality goods, but they can get extra piece of mind from knowing that their money is used to do good.

Latest news: Ambassadors win Olympic contract

A joint social enterprise, run by ambassadors Dai Powell of HCT and Stephen Sears of ECT, has won a contract to provide transport at the 2012 Olympics.

The new business E&HCT - a collaboration between the two community transport operations - began operating a bus service to take workers between key areas on the Olympic site on 14 April 2008.

The social enterprise beat five other transport operators - National Express Group, East London Bus Group, First Capital, Metroline Services and NCP Services - to win the four-year contract.

Kresse is new Brit Library social entrepreneur adviser

Kresse Wesling, who’s set up a clutch of ethical and social enterprises, is the British Library’s new advisor for social entrepreneurs.

The 31-year-old entrepreneur, who recycles old fire hoses into fashion accessories, donating money to the fire service, will succeed the late Dame Anita Roddick.

She will take up her volunteer post next month and offer free one-to-one advice sessions at the British Library’s business centre.

HM The Queen visits ambassador

HM The Queen has visited Chris Allwood’s eBay social enterprise Auction My Stuff.

On 14 March, Her Majesty took a tour of the East London Tate & Lyle sugar refinery and paid a visit to Auction My Stuff, which is based on the same site.
