Cafédirect's CEO Penny Newman receives OBE
Penny NewmanPenny Newman's near decade of work for fairtrade hot drinks company, Cafédirect, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list. The ambassador, who began her ethical career at the Body Shop, is thrilled to have been awarded the OBE for her services to ethical business.

She said: "I was surprised when I was called and told I would be awarded an OBE. It's great that the impact of ethical business is being acknowledged through the Honours system."

Penny continued by thanking her team: “This award goes to each and everyone at Cafédirect who has worked long and hard to achieve our mission.

“Without the team at Cafédirect and our partners, including the 39 grower organisations we trade with, Cafédirect and fairtrade would not feature in people's minds," she said.

The OBE is further recognition of Penny's role as an inspirational business leader. Last year she received the Dods and Scottish Widows Businesswoman of the Year award.
